Visiting and Exchange Programme in Africa

Laser Centres for LAM Network

ICTP – Italy

Winter College at ICTP
Since its creation in 1991, the President and many other coordinators of the LAM Network and ICTP affiliated Centres in Africa are strongly involved in training activity during Winter College in Optic, Laser or Spectroscopy organized each year by ICTP in Trieste.

Lund – Sweden

Training at Lund Institute of Technology
1-31 July 1996

The coordinators of the LAM Network and ICTP affiliated Centres in Sénégal, Ghana, Sudan and Kenya have benefited of one month intensive training in diode laser spectroscopy in the Division of Atomic Physics at Lund Institute of Technology in Sweeden. The visit was organized thanks to the support of Prof. Svanberg Director of the Atomic Physics Division in Lund and to Prof. Denardo of ICTP and Prof. Hasselgren Director of the International Program in Physical Sciences at Uppsula University. One of the important conclusion of the visit is the simultaneous implementation of operative equipment in diode laser spectroscopy in the four countries.

Alger, ALGERIE

Co-ordinator
Dr Gasmi Taeb
CDTA, 128, chemin Mohamed Gacem, El Madania
Alger, ALGERIE

The laboratory was established in 1985 within the CDTA, and is structured in four researches groups namely : the solid state laser group, gaseous laser group, atomic and molecular laser spectroscopy group and finally, the laser material processing research group. The CDTA is encouraging the scientific collaboration with all the scientists from African research institutions as long as a common research field of interest is identified.

Egypt

University of Cairo
El-Giza, EGYPT

Co-ordinator
Prof. Yosr Ezz El-Din
National Institute of Laser Enhanced Science (NILES)
University of Cairo
El-Giza, EGYPT

The institute is very well equipped with different types of lasers. It has been established to stimulate the co-operation of all the laser scientists in the surrounding countries. Such co-operation will help in enhancing the south-south common research programs and mainly the LAM Network exchange programs.
